Conference entitled “EU Enlargement: Lessons Learnt and Future Prospects” was organized in Istanbul, Turkey, on 23 and 24 June, 2008.
The event, which was organized by the EU-funded Think & Act project, provided an opportunity to revisit the issue of enlargement and to discuss the future political, economic and institutional structure of the European Union. Think & Act project, which is funded by the European Commission under the 6th Framework Programme, aims to stimulate dialogue among transnational and national researchers and policy makers. The conference in Istanbul was the last conference in a series of the project conferences and was organized by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK). It focused on the challenges of EU deepening and enlargement and raise different possible strategies and scenarios for the Union’s future, based on the results of the EU-funded projects. The conference was particularly intended to facilitate interaction between researchers, policy makers, and media. The event was expected to be useful especially for policy makers.
